An evening with winemaker Marco Fay, from Sandro Fay
On Monday 17 March we welcomed Marco Fay from Italy's Valtellina region for an evening that was filled with wonderful Sandro Fay wines, history and discussion.
Once a niche and overlooked region, the high-altitude wines of Valtellina are now celebrated across the world of wine. Here, Chiavennasca, a local strain of Nebbiolo, balances elegance and perfume with the variety's savoury structure.
A key producer is Sandro Fay, a small, family-run winery located in the sub-region of Valgella. Since its founding in 1973 by Sandro Fay, the winery has been committed to expressing the individuality of its vineyards, with each site revealing its own distinct character. Now managed by Sandro’s children, Marco and Elena, Sandro Fay is one of the most respected producers in the area and continues to bottle wines that showcase the depth and distinction of this region.
