A Nebbiolo Lunch with Matt Large

On Sunday 7 July, we welcomed Matt Large of  Praeter Wine  as he took us on a journey across Australia and Italy's Langhe through the lens of Nebbiolo. Time spent with industry leaders, Shadowfax in the Macedon Ranges and the Adelaide Hills' Shaw + Smith, has only expanded Matt's knowledge and passion for the grape. His  love for Nebbiolo inspired him to undertake a vinous pilgrimage to the Langhe in Piedmont, Italy where  he worked his first vintage in 2017.

Over a five-course Northern Italian menu, Matt guided us as we compared local styles of Nebbiolo with classic examples from the Langhe and its heartland, Barolo.

Praeter Wine

Today, Matt works with Nebbiolo vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, in Victoria's Pyrenees and in Barolo to make wines under his own label, Praeter Wine. He has an annual sojourn to Barolo to work at Figli Luigi Oddero, a famed producer from La Morra.
