Bass Phillip on Flinders Lane
One of Victoria’s most unique producers, the Bass Phillip estate has long been renowned as a Gippsland producer of benchmark quality. We’re delighted to welcome a Bass Phillip cellar door and tasting experience to our restaurant on Flinders Lane.
Inspired by the wines of Burgundy, founding winemaker Phillip Jones chose this South Gippsland site for its prime location: north-facing vineyards capitalise on long sunshine hours, with cool breezes from Bass Strait allowing the vines to thrive through warm summers. Farmed organically and biodynamically for decades, Phillip’s unrelenting pursuit of quality is clearly present in the vineyard and continues today. Close planted in 1979, the vineyard’s mature vines and low yields, when combined with a gentle hand in the winery, produces wines of complexity and longevity.
The story of Bass Phillip has come full circle, with Burgundian winemaker Jean-Marie Fourrier taking the helm in 2020. Phillip and Jean-Marie's connection comes from a shared admiration for the legendary Henri Jayer of Vosne Romanée.
For many passionate Bass Phillip lovers, a visit to the estate in South Gippsland is a dream. Without the facilities to welcome guests, and situated a significant distance from Melbourne, until now they have had to miss out.
On any day of the week join us for a sommelier-led tasting to try a flight of three vintages of either their Premium Chardonnay or Estate Pinot Noir. To celebrate this special city cellar door, we’ll have additional Bass Phillip wines also available by the glass.
Reservations essential, daily at 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm.
$65 per tasting flight.
